THE CHARITY GIANT ROW.

It has always been said, charity begins at home and true to the talking, the famous Mombasa Cement philanthropist Hasu Patel has been living that saying for years.

To Mombasa residents and those who frequently visit this 'Sun city', the beautiful sculptures of Elephants and Buffaloes that sit in almost all CBD roundabouts are not a new thing in their eyes.

Just to mention a few activities this kind hearted philanthropist has been doing, we can all say without fear of contradiction that his efforts have transformed the looks of the once dirty city of Mombasa.

Do you remember the famous Kibarani dumpsite? On your way to Changamwe after Makupa roundabout?? Well it's through his efforts that we can now proudly say that Kibarani has a beautiful park. Thanks to him

Those are just a few beautification programmes that this sponsor has been doing in his home county...Let's not talk about the perimeter walls he has been building in every police station and some schools.

Can we all turn blind to the many masses he has been helping with food stuffs on a daily basis in Mombasa? The hundreds of students he pay for their school fees??

What about the elephant in the room?? How many families have benefited from his kind gesture of paying hospital bills and even footing their transport costs from hospital?? Without a doubt he is one in a million.

The recent online tussle of power we have witnessed between the Mombasa County government and the company if it is not politically instigated, then I will openly say that his excellency the governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir has wrongly calculated this move.

You cannot win a war with a guy who has single handedly helped hundreds of thousands of your people without a budget from the national or county government.

Governor Nassir should let the kind man help the people like he has been doing,Hasu Patel has been supplying Makadara with the oxygen needed for patients, this is something that the county government has been unable to do and as a matter of fact, paying doctors is already a challenge.

In a lighter note, who fights such a giant?? His charity works speaks for him and he has the support of almost three quarters of the Mombasa county residents.

Despite the recent public remarks of the governor that he has no quarrel or issue with any sponsor who wishes to donate or help patients in various county hospitals, it's clear that on the ground nothing is okay between the two parties.

First and foremost, the letter dated 5th May 2023 by the county executive member of Health Dr Swabah Ahmed Omar was the beginning of this online war.

The county cabinet wants well wishers and those who wish to help patients follow a certain procedure as this will streamline issues.

But why was there a letter that was privately written to Mombasa Cement to follow the procedure.

What is the county government trying to achieve by controlling charitable acts?? Is there something we are not seeing with our own eyes??

A few people I met on my way to bamburi had this to say about the issue,"Sio sawa kwa serikali ya Abdulswamad kama gavana kuingilia utendakazi wa Mombasa cement kusaidia watu"

In conclusion, if governor Nassir truly means no harm, he should do so with actions and not frequent press briefings that actually carry no weight.

He should first let sponsors who mean good for this great county do the charity works uncensored.

But if he turns a deaf ear to this piece, come 2027 September, Mombasa will have a new governor, and we will remember him as a one term governor who closed the gates for charity works in Mombasa.

Ends.
